Since Edgemere, NY 11690 is an acceptable address for the United States Postal Service, shouldn’t that be used instead of one in Far Rockaway? Film trade directories always listed the Edgemere as being in Edgemere, and not in Far Rockaway.

I’m also pretty sure that Beach 33rd Street is considered to be in Edgemere. The problem is, Google Maps will not map Edgemere. Go to the map above and substitute Edgemere for Far Rockaway and look at the result. By using Far Rockaway as a location, people will have some idea where this theater was located.

I believe that the Edgemere Theatre was in Edgemere, which is a community between Arverne and Far Rockway. The Edgemere had 1,490 seats, according to the 1944 Film Daily Year Book, which listed it as “closed.”

This theatre was operated by the Endicott Circuit in the 1940’s.

The New York Times report said “Rockaway Beach.” Why does the listing say “Far Rockaway?” They are not the same community. Film trade directories have theatres listed for Far Rockaway, Rockaway Beach, and Rockaway Point.

This website called Graduates From Rockaway In 1968 mentions an Edgemere Theatre. Perhaps one of those people could come here and contribute their memory of this theatre. One passage reads;‘Harvey Brody, Class of 1968, joins us from Scotia, New York and reminisces about Jack and Lenny’s skee ball, the Edgemere Theater, the Central Deli, and Duff’s Jewelry on Central Avenue.'
