The Martin Theatre was built as a single screen theatre and later converted into a twin cinema.

The Martin, or as it was later known The Martin Twin, was part of the old Kingsport Mall. You entered the theatre from inside the mall. The entire mall structure was demolished a couple of years ago, and a new shopping complex, sans theatre, stands in the former location.

The Martin opened on June 24th, 1971 with John Wayne in “Big Jake”. armike Theatres was the last to operate this theatre.

That should have been Carmike Theatres.

This theater had the most comfortable plush red pleather rocker seats. I loved this place as a kid and into my early adulthood. I saw Return of the Jedi here during its original release. I hated to see it go.
