Viewing: Photo | Street View

Listed in Kinematograph Yearbook’s from at least 1947, the Vogue Cinema originally had a seating capacity of 490 in stalls and circle levels.

It closed on 7th September 2007 with “Transformers”. The reason for closing was the lessee/operator retiring. The building is owned by Newry and Mourne Council. It was the last single screen cinema to operate in Northern Ireland.

Local Information about Kilkeel:

“The Vogue Cinema, formerly the Town Hall, uncomfortable seats and only one screen, also, always the last cinema in Ireland to show every film”.

The address given on the Kilkeel website was 52 Newry Street but Google maps it as Newry Road. I think it should be 52 Newry Street.

Never subdivided.
I believe it has recently closed, but I cannot confirm that, anybody know for sure.

My scanned photographs were taken in March 2000, when I had the pleasure of meeting the operator, John Quinn. My photographs of the closed cinema were taken in October 2013.
