Showplace Video has an address of 622 S. Main. Could the video store be located in this theater building?
LM, I think the theatre building was demolished, it was a large two story building but when you look at the google pictures of the block they are all single story buildings that look rather new(of course they could just be new fronts on old buildings too). I found where the theatre was built and opened in 1948 but that is all I found. I came across a pic at one time but can’t remember where I found it. Just remember that it was two story white front with a decent sized marquee. Remember the theatre advertising Titanic. See some functions of the old brain still work.
Chuck….Google photos usually point to the wrong building. This building can be seen in a Google photo if you use a higher number for the address such as 652 S Main St. The only theater that I can find in the Film Daily for Hugoton is a Harris Theater. I wonder if that was another name for this theater.
The Showplace Video is in a single story building next door to the theatre. Is the theatre itself still for sale, it was for sale in 2005.
The Showplace is still for sale but closed and in need of major repair. The owners of the video store next door are also the owners of the theater. In recent months, the Hugoton City Council has discussed the possible purchase and renovation of the theater.
