After viewing historic exterior/interior photographs of Elk City’s Rex Theater, judging from the styling it would be a safe guess to say that this movie house originally opened as a nickelodeon.
Vintage photographs also reveal that this structure was obviously purpose built to be a cinema. The Rex Theater is still listed as operating in the 1950 edition of Film Daily Yearbook

After all these years the Rex Theatre Bldg still stands, though now used as a Western wear shop …
