This was in operation from the mid-1960’s until the early 1990’s when Midway Mall’s multiplex theater caused it to close.

It also had a popcorn stand in the theater that made caramel and other flavored popcorns as well.

The building stood empty along with the rest of the of the now-closed shopping plaza that once was a major shopping area before Midway Mall in Elyria opened. It was demolished in 2007.

When the weekend rolls around I’ll stop by the plaza and take some photos of the outside and maybe if I’m lucky the windows and doors are not boarded up I can get shots of the lobby from the out side as well as long as the glass isn’t too cruddy.

Also,if any one does have ads or pics of Ridgeview Cinema when it was in operation that be great to see. I can’t remember the last movie I saw there but until the multi-plex at Midway Mall was built I went there all the time with my parents when I was young. I also can’t remember if it was strictly first run until the very end or became 2nd run towards the end.

I decided not to wait until the weekend to take the photos ans here they are for people to see. As you can see the place hasn’t been use in 15 or so year and is in really bad shape. The lobby roof has caved in and it has been broken into the past. One of the window on the right side by where the posters for screen 2 would have been was the ticket window. It was and still is North Ridgeville’s only movie house.

Drove by the center today. Most of the buildings are down. The cinema is currently being razed. With the front of the building down, the seats and screen are now visible. It appears one cinema had blue seats while the other had red. It will all be gone by tomorrow.

Actually, just to clarify, it was NOT the Midway multiplex that caused this cinema to close. When the 8-screen Midway cinema opened, this cinema wnet from first run to second run movies. Regal opened the Sheffield Centre Cinema with second run movies and THAT caused the Ridgeview Cinema to close. look in the Chronicle-Telegram archives from 1991 for more info.

This is the theater that My friends and I saw Rocky Horror in late ‘82-early'83. The couple that owned it sold it and the new owners weren’t interested in showing it. They were the ones that put in the popcorn bar. The wife of the couple wrote out a free pass for me once because I just didn’t have enough money to get in on night. I think I still have it.
