Premiere Cinema has closed this location, along with their other discount locations in Waco, TX; Webster, TX; and El Paso, TX - completely vacating the sub-run market.
Fred, nor are any movies listed on Fandango and similar outlets. Also the phone isn’t working. Sooooooooooooooooooo.

In this theater’s main auditorium I saw WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, BATMAN, and THE ABYSS, to name a few. It’s main auditorium is its largest, by far, and has a good-size screen. The upkeep of the auditoriums, however, is not very impressive. Also,the theater converted over to digital projection a couple of years ago but seems to use low wattage bulbs because the image on screen seems pretty dim. I complained about it to the management but was pretty certain that, based on the perplexed response I got, it wouldn’t do any good. If management would clean up the auditoriums and raise the standards on their presentations, business would probably increase dramatically.
Westgate Mall had been open almost 6 years when United Artists acquired the former Hub Clothiers/later Moning’s Department Store space and converted it to a state of the art 6 screen theater opening May 25, 1988. I saw “CROCODILE DUNDEE 2” that day. The auditoriums were considerably larger and nicer than the “shoebox” UA-6 a couple miles east on I-40. The Westgate 6 converted to a second run dollar theater when UA opened their Amarillo Star 14 all-stadium seating Theater across the freeway in 1998. UA decided not to keep the theater and it was closed for a time in the early 2000s. Premier Cinema took over the location reopening the theater as a second run discount venue in the spring of 2004. Some recent remodeling has improved the theater quite a bit.
A rather standard, 80’s era, mall multiplex. At one time it was the “latest and greatest” (along with the mall), driving older competition under. Then, after trends changed towards the megaplex (of which Amarillo currently has two), the Westgate was forced in to becomming a second run theatre.
