Cinema V-Salle Hermes

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Originally opened as the Empress Theatre in 1927, it was initially a vaudeville theatre. Soon after opening movies began to be shown and the theatre was listed as having a seating capacity of 1,350.

The Cinéma V-Salle Hermes theatre was opened in 1968 with Cinema V downstairs and the Balcony known as Salles Hermes.

During the 1970’s this theatre showed the cult film "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". In 1988 Famous Players took over the theater, but unfortunately a fire shut it down in 1992.

This theatre originally opened in 1928. In 1936, according to the AFY Yearbook, it was known as the Empress Theatre then with 1,600 seats. The outside facade has a classical look to it, now painted white. In 2004 photos outside facade is still in good shape. Other names it has been known by: Royal Follies, Home of Blue Movies
