This article from the May 18, 1939 Nashville News talks about the Pine Theatre’s grand opening:
“People in Dierks and this section turned out almost enmasse last Thursday night to see “The Valley of the Giants†on the opening of the New Pine Theater. Long before the first show started, Manager Jack Blair hung out the S.R.O. sign and soon thereafter had to replace it with another reading: “Not even standing room.â€
A large number waited until the first show was over and obtained seats at the second show; some, however, decided that they couldn’t get in and went home and came back Friday night as the same picture was run both nights.
Patrons marveled at the beauty of the interior decorations, the luxurious cushioned opera chairs, the lighting effects, the clearness and naturalness of the picture on the screen and the excellence and plainliness of the sound.
The air conditioning system functioned perfectly and those who sere lucky enough to get seats and see the show praised the picture highly. On the whole, folks in Dierks and this section are highly pleased with the new theatre and the type of pictures it is showing.
The First Pine Theatre prevue, Saturday night at 11 o’clock, will bring Bing Crosby and Fred MacMurray to the screen in “Sing You Sinnersâ€. The feature will run Sunday and Monday, with a continuous show Sunday starting at 1:30 p.m.”
Info from Ken Roe, in 1941 this theatre was part of the K. Lee Williams Theatre chain.
