A 1956 Boxoffice item mentions that a Mr. Vernon Lawson had managed the State Theatre in Rapid City since 1935, so the house was at least that old.

Commonwealth Amusement took over this theatre from Black Hills Amusement Co. in 1969. Closed in 1980.

this theater was burned down in 1996 in a fire, it was a club for a while called the rush that punk bands played at even d.o.a played here in the 90s
