Here is a March 1914 ad from the LA Times. The address is a little different.

Not only should the address be changed to 3937 Whittier Boulevard, the location should be changed to East Los Angeles, as the address is east of Indiana Street and thus outside the Los Angeles city limits.
Thanks. I think the “modern” address of 3937 Whittier Blvd should be used for the address above and mention the 3937 Stephenson Avenue address in the description.
LM: It’s most likely that only the street name would have changed, so if the Ivy’s building still existed it would probably be at 3937 Whittier Boulevard in East Los Angeles. That would be on the north side of Whittier near Ditman Avenue.
Here is a 1944 street guide. Stephenson Avenue is in E-40:

The directory does read 3937 Stephenson. Any idea what that would be in a “modern” address?
It could be 3937. My eyes aren’t what they used to be. Thanks for the info.
Oh, and Stephenson Avenue isn’t gone (I don’t know why I didn’t notice this immediately.) The name was changed to… Whittier Boulevard! And, if the Ivy was at 3937 (I’m now pretty sure that’s the number the directory gives), then it should be listed in East Los Angeles rather than Los Angeles, as the 3900 block is a bit east of Indiana Street, the city limits.
Also, this probably means that we can bulldoze both of the Jewel Theaters in Los Angeles, since they apparently both duplicate the Jewel Theater in East Los Angeles, at 3817 Whittier Boulevard.
Doesn’t the directory give 3937 Stephenson as the address for the Ivy, or has this monitor finally destroyed my eyes?
Let’s bulldoze the first one. Editor please note. Can we also eliminate the duplicative Tilton Theater in Northfield, NJ?
Speaking of the Jewel Theater, there are still two of them listed on here. Which one would you like to “demolish”? LOL

Funny that there were three theaters on this unassuming street at one point, the Jewel, the Ivy and the Euclid. Now buried under a few tons of concrete.
I looked at the 1925 silent theater list for Los Angeles and there is no Ivy Theater listed. I would assume that the Ivy theater was gone by that time or it changed names at some point prior to 1925.
Sometime in the 1950s, I think. It would have been the 5 going through East LA. I found the street on a 1944 map around that area, but today’s Thomas guide has no Stephenson Street.
Do you know what year the freeway was built?
Here are both pages of the 1914 city directory:

Maybe Joe Vogel or Ken Roe can find some information on this one. I gave up.
The category was motion picture theaters.
Does the 1914 city directory specify motion picture theater or does it just list the Ivy as a theater?
