The seaing for this theatre which was opened in 1941 should be 600, not 1200.

When looking at the Google photo, the Legion Theatre’s entrance was about where the white car is parked.

This is the original Legion Theatre that was opened in 1941 at 1408 27th Avenue in downtown Gulfport. It was located across the street from the Union Station Depot building. The theatre seated 600 including the balcony and was owned by the local American Legion Post and Ed Ortte. In 1951 a new Legion Theatre was constructed a block away on 13th Street in downtown. This new theatre seated 1200, which included the balcony. The theatre on 27th Avenue then became the Gulf Theatre and it closed in the 1980’s.
