Opened in 1950, it closed as a full-time cinema in 2002.

It was managed for a while by the city of Milan for the annual screening of the winning films from Locarno, a festival that focusses on new filmmaking talent, and Venice, the oldest surviving film festival. It has since closed down permanently.
