Thanks tlsloews. Like Lost Memory who is one of the best research members on CT it takes a lot of time and research on the internet, but in the end it is worth it. It is always great to share with other members your findings.

Does anyone remember a Carlton Theater on Main Street in Evansville? It was there in the mid-fifties. Don’t see any of the theaters listed in Evansville on Cinema Treasures refer to that name.

tlsloews, I never got to see it as the Loew’s Victory but have seen it since it was renovated. They did a fantastic job on the theatre.

Thanks for the info Chuck1231, the next time I go to Evansville I will check it out. I have been there several times but did not know about this theatre. Good to see that it is still in operation.

Loew’s took over operation of the Victory in 1928 and operated it until 1971. The header should have an AKA Loew’s Victory, that was its name for most of the theatres life.

That’s a foot all right. Not mine, though.

Now the link that I posted works. If you click the right arrow button above the photo, there are two more interior photos. If you click the left arrow, you will see a photo of someones foot. Tiny URL might be having temporary problems.

It doesn’t work. It takes me to the Tiny URL website with the same error message.

Foundations were put in place, but the theater, to be called the Ambassador or the Cadick was never built. Details here:

The April 2nd, 1930 issue of weekly Variety reported that a new theatre costing $1.5 million would be built in Evansville, Indiana, on the SW corner of 3rd and Sycamore Streets, with Bowling & Shank as architects. Did this ever happen? The project might have been aborted by the Depression.

A Moller theater organ opus 3109 size 2/11 was installed in the Victory Theater in 1921.
