Here’s a postcard of downtown Chariton. The taller of the light colored buildings at the left is the Lincoln Theatre - a predecessor and then neighbor of the Ritz at 914 Court. The Woman’s store which is to the left of the Lincoln would be dramatically altered – essentially razed – to become the Ritz Theatre in 1927. The Lincoln would burn due to faulty wiring and decimated all but one building on the block though facades remained on some and allowed for rebuilding of the Ritz. The Lincoln was a total loss.
