The Sky-Vue Drive-In opened in 1948 and was built by J.B. Johnson Enterprises. It opened to heavy rain storms, the same night as its sister theatre, the Lexington Drive-In (defunct 1989), in Nicholasville, KY.
The Sky-Vue’s screen tower (originally wooden) burned in the early 60s, and was replaced with a new steel tower. The Sky-Vue was sold to Chakeres Theatres in 1964. The theatre was extensively remodeled in 1970.
It was sold around 2000 and twined by the owners of Movies 9.

This should be listed in Kentucky, not Kansas.
Yes, this is in KENTUCKY. Further, the contribution of “Danny” is nearly verbatim of what I have researched and written about this theatre elsewhere… with the exception that the twinning was done in 1990 or 1991 by Chakeres Theatres and NOT the Movies 9 outfit. Danny is making an assumption on that part. FWIW, Movies 9 is owned and operated by Larry Mullins, d/b/a Bluegrass Theatres.
