Opening on February 13, 1987, the Tower Merchants Six Cinemas became the second multiplex theatre to open in the Raleigh area under Cineplex Odeon Corporation. Located in the southeastern part of Raleigh at the Tower Merchants Shopping Center at Bastion Lane near the Raleigh beltline. The theatre was state of the art all the way, with six widescreen auditoriums, the latest projection equipment and full Dolby Stereo Sound in four of its auditoriums that were capable of showing larger presentations in 70mm. The theatre had a spacious marble lobby and interiors that were elegantly designed with luxurious plush seating throughout. Advance ticket purchases were available for the same day film presentations along with front door free parking.
Cineplex Odeon operated this theatre until 1991 when Carmike Cinemas took over. Carmike Cinemas operated the Tower Merchants Six until its closing in 2003.

I managed this theater VERY briefly for Carmike in January 1994. There were several nights where we closed early because no one showed up for the 9:00 shows – no one knew the theater even existed because of where it was built. Interestingly enough, my now-father-in-law is who built the theater originally (as in, the contractor, not owner).
This was one of the multiplexes that CARMIKE abandoned and left for dead when it closed in 2003. Reason why is no one knew where exactly the theatre was located not to mention even existed for that manner since the cinema was located on the other side of Bastion Lane at Tower Merchants right off the Traywick Road near the Raleigh Beltline in East Raleigh.
