There was a time in the 1950’s this was called the Carolina Theatre.

The correct current name should be the Main Street Theater. Theater of the Republic is the name of the community theater group which restored the theater and stages productions there.

Here’s an article about a fund raiser for the Main Street Theater. which confirms the information in he entries above. This theater’s entry indeed needs updating.

It’s good to see that this theater has risen from the ashes. Another one has been saved. LOL

LM, that is the same theatre building, so this header is all wrong. The theatre is the Main Street, according to their website it is located at 337 Main St. tel. no. 843.488.0821. So the theatre was not destroyed by fire and it was not demolished. Like you said it is alive and well. Their motto is theatre of the republic, theatre of the people and by the people. So the header should say Main Street Theatre, Open, Live Performances, seating is listed on their web site as 207 downstairs and 90 upstairs with 4 areas for handicapped. Thanks LM, I had given up on this one.

Chuck….I might have found something on the Main Street Theater. Depending on where you look, the address for the Main Street Theater varies from 331 to 337 Main Street. Compare this recent photo of the Main Street Theater to the 1986 photo of the Holliday Theater. The building looks the same to me. If they are the same, the Main Street Theater is alive and well as a live performance theater. Here is their website.

I don’t have anything on a Main Theater but there was also a Carolina Theater in Conway. The Holliday Theater had 650 seats.

There was also a Main Street Theatre that is not listed on CT, it was in the 200 block, does anyone have any info on the Main Street?
