The Saraton Theatre was opened on 9th July 1926. It was designed by architect F.J. Board. In 1940 the Saraton Theatre was renovated in an Art Moderne style. The architect for the renovation was George Rae who was born in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. In 1950, the seating capacity was given as 1,166. It was operated by T.J. Dorgan Pty. Ltd.

The Saraton Theatre closed in the 1960’s but was re-opened in December 1982. In 2008, work began on a
restoration/renovation project which was completed during 2009.

The Saraton is currently being renovated so the status should be Closed/Renovating. Here is a September 2008 article about the renovation.

The name of this theater comes from the name of the family that built and still owns the Saraton Theater. The families last name is Notaras. Spell it backwards and you have Saraton. A partial exterior view is on this site.
