The Sylvia originally opened in 1911. After being closed for a period, it reopened in the early 1920s, possibly remodeled or rebuilt. It was a brick one story theater, on the corner of Fillmore Avenue and Roeder Street.

It was a second-run theater, managed by a man named Gram for many of its years. The Sylvia closed in 1952, becoming a jewelry store for about 20 years. The building is believed to have burned in the early 1980s
and was razed.

For some of its years, the theater was operated by A.C. Behling, who also involved with the Ellen Terry Theater.
