The 8-screen Movie House opened on 30th September 1992. It is located in the Yorkgate Shopping Centre (now known as City Side) and had a seating capacity of 1,450.

Operated by the independent Movie House Cinemas chain, in around 2000 an extra 6-screens were added. Seating capacities in the screens range from 340, down to 90.
