The Dome Theatre, aka Sand Theatre in its last years, located at 1410 25th Avenue, was opened in the early 1970’s as a replacement for the Gulf Theatre, located at 1408 27th Avenue, which was being demolished along with the entire block, in the urban renewal program. I have many fond memories from all the years I worked at the Gulf. I rememeber the morning it was demolished, it made me sick to see it go. I hated the Dome, a former store converted to house the theatre.
Yes, it should be listed as AKA Dome Theatre. It only operated as the Sand Theatre in its last years of operation.
The feature for the grand opening of the Dome Theatre was the 1970 version from American-International of “Wuthering Heights” with Thomothy Dalton.
Shouldn’t the header read Sand Theatre AKA Dome? Sand was the last operatimg name of this theatre.
