Newton Stewart Cinema

The Picture House opened in 1933 with a seating capacity of 500. Always independently operated, it was closed in 1968.

The building was purchased by a community group and work was carried out to rebuild and refurbish the cinema. By 1980, it had re-opened as The Cinema, with a seating capacity of 396. The operator was listed as John Forbes – Sempill.

The Cinema, which has a car park, continues successfully today, serving the population of Newton Stewart, which is near to Wigtown, in Dumfries and Galloway.
