Odeon Motherwell

Built for Oscar Deutsch’s Odeon Theatres Ltd. chain and designed by architect Andrew Mather, the Odeon opened on 3rd December 1938 with Sabu in “The Drum”. The exterior of the building was faced in white faiance tiles and had a squat tower feature on the left-hand side. Seating was provided for 1,242 in the stalls and 510 in the circle.

The Odeon Motherwell closed on 25th October 1975, with David Niven in “Paper Tiger”. It was converted into an independent bingo club, known as County Bingo. This continued until it was closed in November 1995 and the building was demolished in 1996. A development known as Centre Point was built, which contained a Mega Bar, a Hype Club and ooffices and parking.
