Ashiya Theater

Ashiya Air Base (Ashiya Town, Onga District, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan) was a USAF facility from (at least) 1948 until Summer 1960.

The movie theater was located in the base’s northeast quadrant, along with housing and other civilities. The theater was a plain rectangular box without frills, typical of other military PX/BX facilities. The writer is not even sure of the theater’s proper name, if it had one. Besides movies, it featured the last Base Commander’s exceedingly dull and too-frequent speeches. The neighboring fishing village’s attractions were more exciting.
