The Colonial dates back to 1919 when it opened as a vaudeville house. In 1929, it became the Paramount when it was taken over by Paramount Pictures' Publix chain. Later on, Fox Intermountain Theatres operated it.
After it closed in the late 80s, the building was donated to the Idaho Falls Arts Council who completed a $4.2 million restoration in 1997. The Colonial has returned to its original name, and with two adjoining buildings, it is now part of the Willard Arts Center which contains three art galleries.
