This modest small-town theater with an elegant vertical sign has long served Hailey and nearby Sun Valley and Ketchum.
In the mid-1990’s, local residents Bruce Willis and Demi Moore bought the place, along with several of the surrounding businesses, and put some serious money into upgrading it. Willis also sponsors a local drama troupe that occasionally does live theater in the Liberty Theater.
In 2001, the actor even headlined a brief run of Sam Shepard’s “True West” there.

The E network recently broadcast a segment about Moore and Willis and their presence in Hailey ID. It not only showed photos of the Liberty, but also a theatre named The Mint.
Guess this E show was broadcast more than once according to another post by “shoeshoe14” on Nov 14….which happens to be my wedding anniversary! Wonder what really happened between that famous former couple and their marriage?
I have heard that their association with the town is minimal as of today. The residents are disappointed as they expected a lot more out of the Willises.
This is a 2008 photo of the Liberty.
Here is a new link for the 2008 photo.
Both the Liberty and a theater called the Mint were captured in some B-Roll in an episode of “Snapped” on the Oxygen Network. It originally aired in 12/06.
The Mint was actually having it’s marquee letters changed from a ladder in the brief footage.
Though there seems to be no CT link to a Mint Theatre in Idaho.
I’ve visited family in Hailey many times since my childhood, and the only film I saw here was ‘Ready To Rumble’ on April 15th, 2000. It was a nice theater, quite grand and I’m very jealous I don’t have any like that in my neck of the woods.
