This project was announced in Boxoffice of August 4, 1970. It was one of four theaters planned in Iowa shopping centers being developed by developer Matthew Buckshaum. All three were to be operated by the Chicago-based L & M circuit. The Plaza Cinema I & II was the only twin among the three. The house was expected to be opened within eight months.

Fridley opened a new, 10-screen multiplex in Muscatine on March 14, 2013, and the Plaza 4 Theatre was closed on May 2.

If this house is located in the Muscatine Shopping Center, then it was probably the twin opened as the 850-seat Plaza Cinema I & II by the L&M Circuit in 1971. It was listed among the new theaters opened the previous year, in Boxoffice Magazine’s issue of May 15, 1972.
