Located in the Cross Pointe Plaza Shopping Center. One of two theatres that were owned and operated by the General Cinema Corporation in the greater Fayetteville area(which also operated the Cross Creek Mall Cinemas I-II-III). The theatre opened in 1987 with state of art seating and great projection, and it was the second multiplex to opened in the Fayetteville area. The theatre closed in 2002 and has since been demolished.

The theatre was basically several blocks down the street on Morganton Road not very far from the Cross Creek Mall in Fayetteville

This theater and the Cross Creek Mall cinemas across the street were not helped by the fact that Carmike put up two multiplexes nearby: the Carmike 12 (built on the site of the Westwood 6) and the Marketfair 15 (on Skibo Road next to Sam’s Club). With only nine screens in this part of Fayetteville versus Carmike’s 27, it’s not surprising GCC folded (although bankruptcy was the official reason the Cross Creek and Cross Pointe cinemas went under).

Nighthawk1 – thanks for the March 6 info! Carmike also filed for bankruptcy ~2000, but seems to have pulled out of it, unlike GC. I am curious about it opening in 1987, given that Carmike would have had a presence there by then, given its acquisition of the Martin Theaters in the area… I will have to look into that more. I assume GC was the much larger entity c. 1987, given that it was still very large up until its bankruptcy… (Carmike was 5th in screen count in 1987, but didn’t reach #1 until 1995.)

If the theatre was attached to the northwest corner of the strip mall then it appears to have been demolished. The Google Earth historic images show the theatre shape building suddenly replaced by a very square box.

The Cross Pointe Cinemas have been demolished; they stood where Bed Bath & Beyond is now located. The theater was directly opposite Macy’s at Cross Creek Mall (when I was in Fayetteville Macy’s was still Hecht’s and undergoing remodeling).
