Plans for a Roy Theatre, which was going to be called the Major theatre, were first announced in the May 30, 1947 Ogden Standard-Examiner.
It was to be built by the Admiral Theatre Co., who also owned the Admiral theatre in Clearfield, Utah and other theatres in Idaho and Oregon. The location given was just “On the main highway.”
The Published drawing (I thought of S. Charles Lee when I saw the rendering) showed that a 500-seat house, designed by Fetzer and Fetzer was to be modern in design, with pushback chairs. It was designed with a long entrance to the lobby to eliminate street noise. It is interesting that even two years after the war, construction approval still had to be obtained from Washington. Its ad first appeared in the paper on January 2, 1948 and was called the Roy Theatre instead of the Major theatre.
The theatre closed in 1991 when eminent domain by the city forced the sale of the theatre. Its last owner was Bill Call who also owned the theatre in Kaysville.

The Admiral Theatre in Clearfield was renamed Ideal Theatre in, I believe, the 1960s or 1970s.
