Uploaded two new pictures taken today, one being inside of the original 1975 auditoriums.

Why the city hasn’t deemed this building a eyesore and safety hazard is beyond me. Time for it to meet the wrecking ball, IMHO. Doubt it could be rehabbed for retail space (like the Town Plaza 5 in Cape Girardeau), it has sat abandoned for far too long.

The Illinois Centre 8 behind the Illinois Centre Mall opened on December 10, 1993. And with that, the Town and Country 4 was relegated to a dollar theatre that same day.

This theater opened April 11, 1975 as the Town and Country Twin Cinema, by the Kerasotes chain. It had two more screens built on and opened as a 4-screen on June 17, 1977.

good memories from this theater.i remember seeing firefox with clint eastwood, the canonball run,and ghostbusters (which i’m going to see again this weekend in paducah,ky during the one week only limited 30th anniversary rerelease.i also saw e.t.there.i took my first date there,(don’t remember what we saw) the last two movies i saw there were batman and lethal weapon 2 in 1989.about a year later the illinois centre place 8 theater opened.that was during the stadium theater boom.i don’t think t and c lasted much longer after that.i moved away that same year. haven’t been to marion in a while.i was wondering if the theater is still standing.i know it broke my heart everytime i went back and saw it boarded up.

The theater still stands, the windows have been boarded up ever since it closed about 10 years ago.
