The address in the header is correct and the name should be changed to Burk (shortened from the owners last name, Burkinshaw). When you google the theatre move the curser to N. Main & W. Center and you will see the theatre on the right. This theatre should have another AKA Isis Theatre by which it was known in the early-1930’s. The theatre was located next door to the Iris Theatre located at 10 N. Main.

I have a tape recording of my great-grandfather, Zachariah Brown, talking about how his father, Silas Brown, started the first movie picture theatre in midvale. Called it the alysian theatre (elision; probably spelled it wrong, but it sounds like it looks). It started in Zach’s mid teen years which would have been around 1915. The brown family ran this theatre as a family business primarily. Zach and his brother, John, learned how to run the machines as teenagers and helped sell candy during the change of the reels (i.e. which was about every 15-20 minutes). That’s all I know about it. Would be cool if someone else knew more information about this theatre and could help verify it’s existence. Figured someone on here might know something.
Thanks, Isaac Brown

The name should be changed to Burk Theatre. There is no e on the end. The address in the header will map properly.

Hi, everyone.
My great great grandfather owned and operated the Burk Theater that is now the Comedy Circuit, as well as two other theaters, one in Sandy, and a short lived location in Riverton. If those responsible for this website would like more information, feel free to contact me.

Bryan….The 14 N. Main Street address is given on Cinematour and the utahtheaters.info website (Grant Smith). This is the utahtheaters.info website. It gives various addresses for a Burk theater (no E in Burk). I did find a Comedy Circuit with a Salt Lake City address that is close to the address above:

The Comedy Circuit
(801) 561-7777

10 N Main St
Salt Lake City, UT 84150

“Near intersection of N Main St and E North Temple St”.

Lost, I found an address for the Comedy Circuit in Midvale, UT at 7711 Main Street. The address above, 14 N. Main Street, doesn’t map on Google. Do you (or does anyone else) know which address for the former Burke Theater/Comedy Circuit is correct?

Now the sign says something about the Comedy Shows running again. I drove by and read the sign on 8/25/04.
