Located in the Rhondda Valley. From at least 1937, until beyond 1947, there was a Victoria Hall operating as the only cinema in Hirwain. It had 650 seats and was booked at the Palladium Cinema, Aberdare.
By 1954, the only cinema operating in Hirwain was the Palace Cinema, again with 650 seats, so it could be the same building as the Victoria Hall? The Palace Cinema was operated by Hirwain Welfare Association.
The Palace Cinema stood on a prominent corner with its entrance facing Brecon Road. The front of the cinema consisted of an arched entrance beneath a square tower. The top of the tower bore the word ‘Palace’ in very large white letters.
Inside the auditorium, there was a 22 feet wide proscenium. The Palace Cinema was still listed in 1966 (when the town name was spelt Hirwaun), and it had gone from listings by 1980.
