News About This Theater

Atwater Theatre

The Odeon Cinema opened on April 24, 1967 on the Metro Level with Peter O'Toole in “Night of the Generals”. The Atwater II followed on the Fashion Level on August 22, 1969.

The downstairs auditorium was twinned down the middle in 1979 resulting in three screens.

In 1986, a third screen was added at Metro Level, while the Fashion Level cinema was gutted to make way for a food court.

The Atwater Theatre finally closed on Jan 3, 2001 because of competition from Famous Players Paramount and AMC’s Forum 22 across the street. Zeller’s and another store now occupy this space.

A small photo of the lobby of the Odeon Atwater Theatre from Boxoffice, September 25, 1967.

A view of the lobby from the opposite direction appeared in Boxoffice of January 15, 1968.

First movie I saw here was “Xanadu” in 1980, on screen one. The last was the re-release of “Heavy Metal” in 1996 on screen one. They had just installed the Sony Dynamic Digital Sound system. The only time I saw a movie when screen three was on the fashion level was “Time Bandits” in 1981. I miss this run of the mill mall cinema.
