The Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre is part of the The Sheung Wan Civic Centre which is on the fourth to the seventh floor of the Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building. The Sheung Wan Civic Centre Theatre is on the fifth floor of the building.

The Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building was built by the former Urban Council and opened to the public on 19th December, 1989, and is currently managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

According to the website of the Sheung Wan Civic Centre, the theatre is a traditional proscenium theatre designed and fully equipped to stage drama, music and dance. It is also equipped for assembly and variety performances. The theatre is also a venue for showing selected films, and once served as a venue of the Hong Kong International Film Festival.

The 515-seat stadium seating auditorium has a 10m x 10m stage, computerized stage lighting, multi-channel sound reinforcement system, orchestra pit with a loss of 35 seats, 35mm and 16mm projectors with mono sound system , and the screen ratio of the screen is 1.35:1, 1.66:1, 1.85:1 and 2.35:1.

The theatre lobby is on the fifth floor, while the URBTIX [the territory wide computerized ticketing service] outlet is on the ground floor of the lifts lobby of the Civic Centre.

The Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building underwent refurbishment and redecoration in January 2007.
