Around 1928 a resident of Glan y Wern, Chwilog, started showing "film" presentations at the rear of his home to the neighbourhood children. At the rear of his home stood a coal shed and opposite, in the neighbouring garden, stood an "earth closet". By knocking out a brick in the rear wall of the coal shed and painting a screen on the rear inside wall of the "earth closet" he made a small cinema for the entertainment of the local children. This was only on Wednesdays - the day the earth closet was emptied. He commenced with slide shows and later progressed to showing silent films on a hand wound baby Pathe 9.5mm projector.

These proved very popular with the local children and were carried on for 2 or 3 years until he took up a career in the police force and moved to Colwyn Bay. This probably deserves a mention in the Guiness Book of Records as the smallest (and smelliest) cinema ever.
