The Slappey Drive-In opened in May 1950. Car capacity was listed at 400. This drive-in was owned by Martin Theatres.
The Slappey Drive-In closed in 1985 and has since been demolished. Any further information on the Slappey Drive-In would be appreciated.

Slappy should be spelled Slappey instead…. At least that’s what the name of the street is…
1993 imagery shows the lot right where Dollar General and Wendy’s are at currently. NW corner of Ledo Rd. and Walnut St. A very strange rectangle lot layout.

A May 27, 1950 blurb in Billboard:
“ALBANY, Ga. – The new $75,000 Slappey Drive-In Theater opened on the Slappey Drive-Atlanta Highway near here last week. It accomodates 400 cars. L.T. Sheffield is owner, with J.D. Bush as manager”.

by the time the mid to later 70s came, slappey drive-in showed a lot of double and triple billings of B to C movies. a lot of extra soft porn, spaghetti westerns, and older stuff. still, it was a lot of fun. saw ‘ghost and mr chicken’ here. at some point in the later 70s there was a fair amount of boozing and dope smoking going on during the shows.
