Melba Twin Cinema

Located in the north-eastern Victoria town of Cobram, close to the border with New South Wales. The Melba Theatre opened as a single screen cinema on 1st December 1948, with the double bill programme; Clifton Webb in "Sitting Pretty" and Greer Garson in "How Green Was My Valley". Seating was provided for 450. It was built on the site of a disused tennis court, and originally there were lawns and a garden in front of the building.

The Melba Theatre was closed in 1984, and it was converted into a market. This later closed and the building stood empty until it was taken over by independent operators and was twinned, re-opening on 8th May 1997 with Madonna in "Evita".

Sadly, the Melba Theatre was destroyed by fire on 10th April 2010, at around 11pm. The fire brought down the roof and part of a side wall, making the remainder of the structure unsafe, and it was leveled the following day.
