MELODY - Bardstown, KY

The Melody Theatre opened on December 3, 1948. The Melody Theatre was slightly larger than its next door neighbor the Arco Theatre with seating listed at 800. The theatre was operated by Affiliated Theatres when it closed. Like the Arco Theatre, the Melody Theatre had a balcony for African Americans.

The theatre closed on May 31, 1953. In 2002 the theatre was purchased along with the Arco Theatre next door by Dzevard Kresco. After two years of renovations and restoration the two theatres were combined to become Kresco’s Restaurant. The entrance of the Melody Theatre became the entrance to the restaurant. Much of the former theatre decor was used and restored in the restaurant.
