A photo of the lobby of the Nortown Theatre appears in the lower left corner of this page of Boxoffice, October 23, 1954. The architect of the theater was A.G. Facey.

An additional photo is at lower right of this page of the same issue, and depicts the boxoffice and entrance to the theater.

The Nortown was operated by Famous Players Theatres, but on occasion 20th Century Theatres would do the booking. How this worked I don’t know, but I was in charge of the art dept. at 20th Century at that time and the Nortown would sometimes end up being advertised in our newspaper ads instead of the Famous Player’s display.

The Nortown was also equipped with 70mm projection, but the screen was just an average size which did nothing to enhance the 70mm viewing experience.

Loved the Nortown! Saw many a Disney film there when I was a child. It also had a lot of roadshow reserved seat move overs from the University. Too bad it was closed so early, could have gone on for years.

Jon, I remember that so well that sometimes the Nortown was in the 20th Century ads or most of the time the Famous Players ads. I also remember that 20th Century usually changed films on Wednesdays, Odeon on Thursdays and Famous Players and Loews on Fridays. Ahhh those were the days. Do you remember when the 2 companies (Famous Players and 20th Century) more or less merged? After that they were all in the Famous Players ads.
