Temple Theatre, Chicago, IL

Viewing: Photo | Street View

Opened as the Acme Theater around 1910 by the Gumbiner Brothers circuit for vaudeville, this 600 seat theater later switched to movies, and also changed its name to the Temple Theater. It was later operated by the Brunhild & Young chain.

After closing as a movie house, the Temple, which is located in the popular Andersonville neighborhood of Chicago, was converted to retail use, and currently houses an antiques store.

This is a small photo of N. Clark Street showing the Temple Theater. Caption with photo reads:

“The Temple Theater at 5241 N. Clark has been gone a long time, but Dick Gengler has memories of the Temple which held 600 and had a balcony. It had originally been called the LeGrand. The location on Clark Street made it convenient for many, by streetcar or walking”.

A Hinners theater organ was installed in the Temple Theater in 1912.
