The Carolina Theatre was located in North Augusta, SC., located across the Savannah River from Augusta, Georgia. I am assuming this was a separate movie theatre and not the Marrh Theatre renamed.
My only source for information is an 80 year old resident of that area who was a projectionist and I have not been able to reach him. So I am going with the Carolina Theatre as a separate movie house. I have two ads from the Augusta Chronicle on the Carolina Theatre, but no street address, how nice it would have been to have the street address. Now Showing at the Carolina,"The Touch of Flesh" it was a first run in North Augusta according to the paper, Good luck finding that title. It showed at 3:15,5:30,7:00,8:30 and at 10:00 pm.
The Carolina Theatre was playing on Saturday at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm "8 UNIT FUN SHOW" and Laurel and Hardy in "Utopia" Popeye Color cartoon, free Popcorn, all-star comedy for Saturday morning kid show.
If the Carolina Theatre is the Marrh Theatre in North Augusta, renamed then hopefully someone on CT will correct it. In the meantime I hope to connect with the old wise projectionist for help on this movie theatre.

The Carolina was certainly in Business on Sept 20 1960. NOW SHOWING And i ain’t making this up, “I PASSED FOR WHITE” with Sonya Wilde. It was advertised as “FRANK and FEARLESS” showed at 7:00 and 8:45.
Interesting movie title.
I can’t believe the newspaper ad did not have street address.Guess everyone in North Augusta knew where it was.
How bout an address, more info or photos?
UPDATE…..UPDATE…….
What I thought happened the Carolina Theatre is the Marrh Theatre.Bill Barkley,Projectionist.explains.“The Marrh Theatre was rented by Bubba Farr,an operator with Local 518,The owner of the Marrh Theatre would not let him use the name,so he changed it to Carolina. There were only two theatres in North Augusta, this one and the Hilltop Drive-in {onCT}."Bill also said,"The theatre was a work of art.an area glassed in with speakers for smokers and a baby crying room.On each asile was a oversize seat so couples dating could sit close to each other. The booth was clean with new equipment.” Thanks Bill.
