Valley became a city in 1980, but its history dates back to the late 1860s when twin textile mills and towns, Langdale and Riverview, were built on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. In the early 1900s, two additional mills and mill villages, Shawmut and Fairfax, were built and in 1980 these 4 mill towns incorporated to form the City of Valley, Alabama.
Is this the valley Drive-In?
You guys got me all confused! I have aerial 3210 20th. There is bank and if you look behind the bank to can make ramps/trees yet. Which one?
It would be nice if anybody that submits a theatre could find/figure out the address before.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 3419 20th Ave, now in Valley, AL 36854.
There was a drive-in on 20th Avenue (US 29) just east of the intersection with Main Street, now 33rd Street. This area is all retail now.
Shawmut isn’t even listed in Rand McNally. It has a Valley, AL, ZIP Code, 36854, and is also very close to Huguley and Lanett. Lannett did have a Valley Drive-In in the 1990’s that “sat” 70 cars.
The Shawmut, Valley Drive-In was open 1955-1964?
Need an address, more info and photos.
mine came from my 1956 motion picture Almanac.
