Aylestone Cinema

Built and operated by local builder Bert Cole, it was located on the corner of Milligan Road and Grace Road in the Aylestone district to the south of the city. The Aylestone Cinema opened in September 1926. All seating was provided on a single level.

Independently operated most its cinematic life, it was operated by the Evington Cinema Circuit by 1954. It was closed on 26th July 1968 with Charlton Heston in "Planet of the Apes". On 17th October 1968 it was converted into a Lucky 7 Bingo Club. It was later taken over by the Rank Organisation as a Top Rank Bingo Club. In 1997, a new purpose built bingo club was opened on the Cattle Market site, and the bingo club at the former Aylestone Cinema was closed. It stood empty and unused for some period of time and was later destroyed by a fire. A block of flats named Grace Court has been built on the site.
