The Allen Theatre was located in downtown Windsor, Ontario. It was opened prior to 1920. It was later renamed Palace Theatre, and operated into the early 1980’s.

It was a great theater which in the 1970s showed first run Hollywood films.
The address was 310 Ouellette Avenue. A new multi-screen theatre was opened on the site in 1987; it closed January 2012.
This theatre was originally built as The Allen Theatre. When the Allen family theatres went under, Mr. Simon Meretsky successful theatre operator from Windsor acquired this theatre in partnership with Famous Players. Jointly they operated the former Loew’s Theatre, (CAPITOL) Allen TheaTRE (PALACE) TIVOLI THEATRE Walkerville and built the Centre Theatre at Wyandot and Pilette Street. These theatres were extremely profitable to Famous Players!
This theatre NEVER showed French movies, only the very best first-run American movies!!

The Allen Theatre in Windsor was one of several houses designed for the chain by architect C. Howard Crane. This was noted in an edition of the Journal of the Royal Institute of British Architects, Volume 28, published in 1920. The publication isn’t available online, so I don’t know if there are any illustrations or not.
Google Books lists two libraries that have copies, both in England (University of Leicester, David Wilson Library, Leicester, and University of the West of England, Frenchay Campus Library, Frenchay, Bristol.)
