Carolina Theatre

Not to be confused with the earlier Carolina Theatre (previously Columbia Theatre) which has its own page on Cinema Treasures. The Carolina Theatre opened September 1, 1941 with Anne Shirley in “West Point Widow”. Seating was listed at 1,230 which was one of the larger downtown theatres. The theatre was part of the Wilby Kincey chain (Paramount). From 1980 until 1983 it was part of the Irwin Fuller Theatres.

The theatre closed in 1983 and has since been demolished.

Located next to the Wade Hampton Hotel, which was razed in the 80s. The location was on the west side of Main about where the parking lot is in the photo
