At left, it’s September 22, 1949 and time for the Skylark Drive-In Theatre to launch for the mighty Durwood Theatres Circuit. Already armed with the four-wall Capitol and State, the Durwood folks would try to undercut the four-month old upstart, the Hiwa Drive-In in Jeff City.

At right, the city got a new bridge and for the Skylark toward the end of its 1955 season, that was good news. And a light bulb went on for the 1956 season as the name of the ozoner would be changed to the “New Bridge Drive-In.” In 1957, the theatre would simply be the Bridge Drive-in.
