The Rio Theatre was located on W. 16th Street at the corner of Canal Street (L Street). It opened on June 4, 1940 with Merle Oberon in “The Cowboy and the Lady” & Tyrone Power in “Second Honeymoon”. It continued into 1950’s. It screened many Spanish language movies.

Seems to be no L Street in Merced. It’s K Street, Canal Street and M Street.

Srue could use an address, more info and photos.

The old Rio Theater, long ago demolished, was an old theater by the mid 1940s, and for a dime, gave skid row drunks a dark place to snooze. They showed old westerns there. I watched part of a Hopalong Cassidy movie there when I was five. Most of the seats were cracked with age.
