Electric Theatre

The Sutherland Chapel was built in 1842 as a Congregational Church. The building was set back on land from Walworth Road, and originally had a street address of 341 Walworth Road. It has a highly pedimented facade, and large windows along the side-walls. In 1904, the building was closed and was taken over by the Electric Theatres (1908) Ltd. It operated as a cinema until at least 1915. Later it became a theatre store.

In the early-1950’s, a new building was built immediately in front of the Electric Theatre, which today is occupied by the Salvation Army and a shop name Art & Magic.

By 2009, the former Electric Theatre has been converted into flats, and is known as Malvern House, with an address around the corner from Walworth Road on Liverpool Grove.
