This new 12 screen stadium seated multiplex opened in December 2009, as a replacement for the original 11 screen AMC/UCI/Odeon mulitplex on the other side of the Metro Centre shopping centre (which was stripped out and converted into retail space). Seating capacity in the largest screen is 316.
The Metrocentre 12 remains one of the top performing cinemas in the UK in spite of competition in the area from the Cineworld at Boldon and the Empire in Newcastle upon Tyne.

its only 12 screens, the other screens 13 to 17 as they appear on Odeon booking system are the luxury seats at the back of the five biggest screens, photos and info here

Odeon MetroCentre was designed by NBDA Architects, of Bollington, Cheshire. There are photos of the Odeon on the firm’s web site.
